Grodno is home to the first zoo established in Belarus. During the summer months, their ‘Grandmother’s Yard’ petting area opens, allowing your children the chance to interact with sheep, turtles, raccoons, goats, ducks and other friendly animals.

While wandering through Grodno, be sure to explore the city park and its picturesque corner known to locals as the ‘Swiss Valley’. The park is named after Jean-Emmanuel Gilibert. It was on this very site that the renowned French scientist established a botanical garden on April 8, 1775 - at the time, considered to be the finest in Europe. Today, a statue of Gilibert stands at the entrance as a tribute to his enduring legacy.

The oldest and most renowned church in Grodno, this architectural marvel stands upon the high banks of the Neman River. It remains one of the city’s most significant landmarks.

The Cathedral of St. Francis Xavier, known locally as the Farny Church, is an exquisite masterpiece of Baroque architecture. One of its towers houses a clock that ranks among the oldest functioning timepieces in Eastern Europe. The first mention of tower clocks in Grodno appears in the “Grodno Privileges” of 1496, where they were already characterised as ‘antediluvian’ so in fact very old. Following their restoration in 1995, it was revealed that such unique clockwork mechanisms were crafted as early as the 13th and 14th centuries.

The Holy Intercession Cathedral of the city of Grodno was built of brick in 1904-1905 in memory of the officers and lower ranks of the 26th artillery brigade who died during the Russo-Japanese War. Learn more about the history of this Orthodox Church.

The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary is part of the Grodno Nativity-Theotokos Stauropegial Convent, with the earliest historical records dating back to 1506. The church contains important Orthodox shrines - the Miraculous Icon of the Mother of God "Vladimir - Myrrh-Streaming", an ancient cross with a relic of the Life-Giving Cross and replicas of miraculous icons of the Mother of God from Mount Athos. The current abbess of the convent, Igumenia Gabriel, was awarded the ‘Person of the Year of the Grodno Region’ in 2012 and was awarded the title ‘Woman of the Year’ in 2008. The grounds are open to the public only during scheduled divine services.

The main temple of the Bernardine Monastery in Grodno is the Church of the Holy Cross. Established in 1595, it stands as the oldest continuously operating Catholic church in Grodno and one of the oldest in Western Belarus. Since 1990, the monastery building has housed the Major Theological Seminary.

The Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Bridgettine Convent is an architectural landmark dating from the period of early Baroque, incorporating elements of Gothic and Renaissance styles. Constructed between 1634 and 1642, it remains one of the city’s defining structures. Within the complex’s courtyard, a unique wooden structure known as a ly amus survives - the oldest of its kind in Belarus. The ensemble holds immense architectural significance as it has been preserved to this day almost entirely without significant rebuilding.

The Franciscan Monastery and the Church of Virgin Mary of the Angels form a Catholic monastic complex and a 17th-century architectural monument, featuring a magnificent 12-stop baroque organ. The oldest organ in Belarus. Although the organ has been rebuilt twice, its facade and some original pipes date back to 1750.

The Grand Choral Synagogue in Grodno is an active synagogue located in the city center, with documented origins tracing back to the 16th century. Throughout its history, it has been subjected to fires and destruction more than once. The current building of the Grand Choral Synagogue was erected by Ilya Frunkin between 1902 and 1905. It is built in an eclectic variation known as the Moorish style, utilizing the foundations and incorporating the walls of the preceding synagogue.
